Re: Long time "Evaluating..." for no apparent reason during data import. Can it be made fa
I have faced very similar issues using PowerBI. When I try to see what active sessions are running on the database, it doesn't show any PowerBI sessions. When I executed a profile and traced all the queries, it was observed that PowerBI is sending the same SQL query millions and zillions of time to the server. My query was finishing within a second but PowerBI was stuck in "Evaluating" mode becuase it was possibly executing the same query again and again. Possible PowerBI bug?
Once or twice when I cancel the PowerBi interface to stop applying the changes and try again it goes through successfully quickly and loads the data in PowerBI. Just FYI, I was trying all this in Direct Query mode.
Update of report via on-premises gateway
Hi
We have newly devopeled a tracking report in powerbi with is linked to our data lake in the company. One of the reasonas for doing this was to allow us to have access to this frequently updated data.
I have learned that to be able to update my report which is published, I needed to install a gateway.
This is done a works nicely, but I need to have my computer online to do it???
Is there any way I can update my report, without being online? for instance over night, or during the weekend, holiday periods?
Thanks
Kristoffer
Unable to use Google Analytics data source
For some reason I'm no longer able to access the Google Analytics service via PBI Service. I authenticate, select the propery, etc. but PBI is unable to refresh the data. I've deleted the report and data sourc and recreated but the issue remains. This is a critical report.
This began about 2 weeks ago. Any ideas?????

can we use on-prem power bi gateway for azure sql database?
Hi All,
following on from the topic raised here in 25.02.2017, can we now adjust the setting on the on-prem power bi gateway so that it can also be used as gateway for other azure services such as an azure SQL database?
If not, can we install the azure on prem gateway on the same VM as the power bi gateway?
Thanks
Re: Power Bi Desktop and Service Integration
Where do you store these CSV files? If you store the CSV files in local drive, you can use on-premises gateway to refresh your dataset in Power BI Service.
Install on-premises gateway on your machine, configure it and add all the CSV files within the configured gateway, make sure that the file paths match that paths you used in Power BI Desktop, then you are able to set schedule refresh for your dataset in Power BI Service.

Re: Update of report via on-premises gateway
Do you connect to Azure data lake store in the Power BI report? If so, Azure data lake is a cloud data source, it doesn't require gateway when refreshing such dataset in Power BI Service.
After you enter credential for Azure data lake in Power BI Service following the guide in this similar blog, you are able to set schedule refresh for the dataset.

Re: ODBC Problem with mongoDB BI connector (MySQL)
The above error is related to collation on MongoDB, what is the collation of your query? Do you have any foreign characters in the MongoDB data source?

Re: Installation of On-premises data gateway fails
I am trying to test your scenario, but I am unable to reproduce this issue.
Could you please use Process Monitor to capture the installation process, and check if there are any permisson-related issues.

Lydia
Re: Unable to use Google Analytics data source
This is a known issue which is recorded in Power BI support, please keep an eye on the update time.

Re: can we use on-prem power bi gateway for azure sql database?
Yes you can, if you select the new checkbox that appears at the bottom on the Manage Gateways
Re: ODBC Problem with mongoDB BI connector (MySQL)
Hi Lydia.
Indeed, I found the solution. And it is related to character encoding.
MySQL provides 2 ODBC drivers, ANSI driver and the Unicode driver. In the MongoDB documentiation, they advise to use the ANSI driver, but this is what provoques the error.
It seems to work fine with the Unicode Driver.
Thanks for your answer!
Re: ODBC Problem with mongoDB BI connector (MySQL)
Glad to hear the issue is solved, you can accept your reply as answer to close this thread.

Re: Error found in custom UI XML of "Microsoft Power BI Publisher for Excel"
I am unable to reproduce your issue, what are the versions of your Excel and Publisher for Excel? I install the latest version of Publisher for excel, you can check my excel version and publisher version in the screenshots below.

Password of Default service account (NT SERVICE\PBIEgwService)
Hi Everyone,
I'm a new to Power Bi, hope that you can support me.
I have download On premises data gateway and it’s now online and ready to use.
However, I need to change the default service account to local domain account and when I’m trying to change it it’s asking for service account and password.
As I know the service account is the default one (NT SERVICE\PBIEgwService) but how can I know the password.
Any help will be highly appreciated.
Re: Date issues with Sharepoint file sources
Same issue here. I downgraded to the previous version and it works ok again.
How do I scale powerBI? My clients are giving me over 70 data sets.
Hi,
This might seem like a really rookie question and hopefully it has a simple answer, I'm relatively new to powerBI so apologies if there is an easy answer.
I've been doing some anyalytics with a client over the last couple of years, they've been pulling reports out of their ERP system and sending them to me me as excel spreadsheets. I've then loaded these into powerBI and then fed my work back through powerBI online.
This has been fine dealing with 20 or less data sets.
Recently though the analytics operation has scaled up and I've been tasked with analysing historic data going back to 2014. The client has given this to me in a load of files, each with multiple sheets. I've loaded these into PowerBI and I have more than 70 data sources.
My system has 16Gb of RAM and an Intel i7 Processer, but whenever I try and edit the queries, applying the changes takes half an hour or more to complete.
My question is, how do I make this quicker?
The potencial options I see are:
- Get data directly from their ERP system so I can get it as one data set. (Not sure if this is possible as they don't like giving third parties access to their ERP system.
- Upgrade my system adding more RAM (Cost isn't a problem but if I get another client with 100 data sets plus, do I just keep updrading?
- Use SQL to somehow combine the datasets using cloud processing (I've no experience with this at all)
If anyone has any opinions or suggestions it would be great to hear them,
Thankyou in advance,
Josh

How to configure PBI Report Server (Oct 2017) SSO with HANA?
I got a PBI Server which is in a test Domain( AD Server is Windows 2012 R2), PBI Server is running with a domain account and I have successfully set the HANA's kerberos authication with test Domain, and I have follow the PBI report server kerberos setting doc to configure every steps : https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/configure-kerberos-powerbi-reports
It doesn't work.
Have any one successfully make PBI report server kerberos delegation worked with HANA?

Until then, technical support will continue to say that power BI is 'running smoothly'.....
