Re: MS Project Connectivity Issue - "Access to this resource is forbidden"

Hi

Do you connect to PWA instance with Power BI Desktop or Service?

Which language is your PWA instance created in?

Did you or your coworkers modify PWA?

If so, please refer to this article to slove the error.

Note that you need to have Portfolio Viewer, Portfolio Manager or Administrator permissions for the Project Web App you are connecting to.

Best Regards
Maggie

Hi

The content pack relies on the user-based permissions to access reporting data through Power BI.

Check with your IT system, if you have the following roles which are required to access the Xero content pack: "Standard + Reports" or "Advisor".

For issues connecting the Xero content pack for Power BI like error messages or very slow load times, first clear the cache / cookies and restart the browser, then reconnect to Power BI.

If these above don't help, you could create a ticket at http://support.powerbi.com (free for pro users)

Re: Import Power BI Dataset or Dataflow table into Excel data model

Hi

Based on my experience, connect to Power BI in excel is possible.

Thanks to contributors, You could refer to the following articles.

  • In the Power BI Service:
Analyzing in Excel, described in the official documentation.
  • From Power BI Desktop:
Export to csv or txt files using R-script. Read article here (only in German available).
Export to an SQL database using an R script. Read article here.
    use Excel functions,

Import data from a Power BI Desktop file into Excel

As for connecting to Power BI dataflow directly, i find no articles saying this.

You could firstly connect to Power BI dataflow with Power bi desktop, then try methods above.

Take data from Cassandra and refresh data

Hi,

I have data stored on a Cassandra database and I'd like to know these two points:

1. Is it possible to take data from Cassandra in Power BI? I haven´t seen an available connector to do so.

2. In case that it is possible to take data from Cassandra, would it be possible too to schedule a programmed refresh of the data? I have checked this page of the official Power BI documentation: https://docs.microsoft.com/es-es/power-bi/refresh-data but I haven't found what I was looking for.

Many thanks for yur help.

Re: Import Power BI Dataset or Dataflow table into Excel data model

Hi ,

Thank you for all of your suggestions. It's nice that there are so many ways to get data in and out of Power BI/Excel. What I'm really looking for is a direct way to pull data from the Power BI Service into an Excel data model. I would like to be able to click Refresh Data in Excel and pull the latest data from a dataset/dataflow without any intermediate steps. The Analyze in Excel option gets close, but as far as I can tell, it only allows access to the data through PivotTables, which unfortunately don't seem to be accessable through Power Query. I know that I can create the PivotTable and then create a data table that references that PivotTable and then pull that data table in through Power Query, but that means I have to keep two copies of my data directly in Excel and it's a bit slow. It also appears that if we had set up data storage for our Power BI tenant I may be able to set up my dataflow to store on Azure Data Lake, which I think I could query, but it looks like that feature is still in preview and I'm not ready to try to push that through yet.

Hey Michael,

Your connectors are great! Super useful. Quick question anyway we can pull the unique reach value from the Facebook ads connector? Right now it pulls the daily reach which isn’t unique reach over a longer period of time. Do you also plan on an updated LinkedIn connector? Thanks again for some great work.

Hi  ,

There is no direct Cassandra database connector in Power BI currently.

By my research, you could try with ODBC driver to connect Cassandra database in Power BI.

For the detail steps, please refer to this bolg Connect to Cassandra as an ODBC Data Source.

If you want to refrsh the dataset in Power BI service, you should add the data source in data gateway in Power BI Service.

And then set the schedule refresh under Settings>>Datasets>>Schedule refresh.

If you still need help, please feel free to ask.

I've recently investigated your question. Facebook hasn't provided an API yet for the Facebook Analytics data.

When they do, I'll be the first to build the connector for it - so when you hear something from Facebook let me know!

Tracking data is typically a bit heavy on the API if you want to leverage the PBI features so this. Typically discount counts are of good value, and then you need the hit/log-data to accomplish this. Pulling realtime results may work, but for good and free filtering this only gets you a part of the way.

If you are interessted in Google Analytics (or know someone who is) take a look a how Scitylana can give you a complete data lake with your hit/log data. When Facebook opens up, Scitylana will provide the same features.

Did you know that using aggregated tracking data in PBI may lead to wrong result. The cause is overcounting and in the case of Google Anlaytics also sampling is a BIG issue.

Hi ,

Firstly, please check if you have installed the latest version of power bi desktop 2.68.5432.841

In addition, please check the steps below. Assuming that you want to connect the data of A@microsoft.com.

1. Get Data>> More>>Online Service>>Microsoft Exchange Online

2. Type the mailbox address: A@microsoft.com

3. Select the Microsoft account type

4. Sign in the A@microsoft.com and enter password

5. Then you could see load the data

If you still need help, please share your steps and the screenshots so that I could understand your situation better.

Cherry

I'm glad you find it valuable! Smiley Happy

The reach metric is aggregated by server-side by the FB API and calculated by counting internal distinct users id's.

This makes it hard to "reverse-engineer" and the only thing that would be possible is to have pre-determined time ranges. The connector was initially build to get the low granularity. But the reach is one of the metrics that really doesn't comply well with this approach.

You can add a feature request here: https://github.com/mbilling/pbiconnectors/issues

Hi

In Power BI Service, there are many ways to  embed reports.

With a pro account, there are two ways:

1. Embed a report in a secure portal or website

The Embed option allows you to integrate with portals using a low-code approach that requires basic HTML and JavaScript knowledge.

2. Embed with report web part in SharePoint Online

With a Power BI Premium license or Power BI Embedded licene, you could perform Power BI Embedded in Azure.

Hi everybody!

I'm trying to get data from a PostgreSQL database but it doesn't seem to work. I think I miss some of the components that need to be installed. When trying to setup a new connection I type in the database and server, and this is the error message I get:

"Unable to connect

Details: "PostgreSQL: We were unable to find a database provider with invariant name 'Npgsql'.
This error could've been the result of provider-specific client software being required, but missing on this computer.  To download client software for this provider, visit the following site and choose the 64-bit (x64) version of, at minimum, 'Npgsql version 2.0.12': https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=282716""

I've tried going npgsql website and install the required components but I can't seem to get it working. I'm not a developer so this is a bit complicated for me. Does anyone know how to get these components installed? I very much appreciate your help! Smiley Happy

I'm using Windows 10 on a Surface Pro 3 if this helps. And I do have Visual Studio Community installed as well.
